Step # 1 in the transition to a new Senior Pastor begins with an intense, specific, intentional period of prayer and fasting. We believe that whether or not God moves in power in this church and throughout this area depends to some degree on our prayers. Every member should make these matters a matter of daily prayer. I am asking as many of you as possible to pray and also fast. Can you begin to imagine what our great God is going to do as hundreds of His followers pray every day about the same matter?

But the Lord sits enthroned forever; He has established His throne for judgment. He judges the world with righteousness; He executes judgment on the nations with fairness. The Lord is a refuge for the oppressed, a refuge in times of trouble. Those who know Your name trust in You because You have not abandoned those who seek You, Yahweh. Psalm 9:7-10
Prayer for Today: Father in Heaven, I honor You. I respect You. I thank You for allowing me to be in Your huge, eternal family. What an honor You bestowed upon me to be called “a child of God,” and such I am! Thank You Father! I praise You for putting me in a family at Englewood where there are hundreds of precious souls who have faith in the Lord Jesus and love for all the saints. Father God, I never stop giving thanks for them as I intercede for them in my prayers. I pray that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, would give each Christ-follower at Englewood a spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of You. I pray that the perception of their mind may be enlightened so each and every one may know what is the hope of Your calling, what are the glorious riches of Your inheritance among the saints, and what is the immeasurable greatness of Your power to us who believe, according to the working of Your vast strength. I pray that every member of Englewood Baptist Church would experience personal revival and fresh encounters with You and our church family. For Your glory and Your name’s sake, Amen.

For it was You who created my inward parts; You knit me together in my mother’s womb. I will praise You because I have been remarkably and wonderfully made. Your works are wonderful, and I know this very well. My bones were not hidden from You when I was made in secret, when I was formed in the depths of the earth. Your eyes saw me when I was formless; all my days were written in Your book and planned before a single one of them began. Psalm 139:13-16
Prayer for Today: Most loving Heavenly Father, You are life, and You give this precious gift of life.

Today, we especially think about the lives of unborn children and the constant threat to those lives—even as we cry out to You on behalf of all kinds of women in all kinds of situations who are carrying those children in their wombs.

All of Your promises are “trustworthy and true,” so we will neither despair nor retreat in the face of unconscionable evil or overwhelming need. Father, give us Gospel courage to contend against the dark evil called “legal abortion.” Because You are making “all things new,” we will continue to fight the good fight of faith for children who are still being knit together in their mother’s womb.

There is a day coming when abortion will be no more. In light of that day, give us wisdom, give us strength, give us boldness, give us perseverance, and give us the sufficient grace we need to advocate for unborn children in this day—in our communities and among the nations of the world.

We also cry out for Gospel compassion. Father, show us how to love and care for women and men whose stories are marked by abortion—either as victims or agents. Only the Gospel is sufficient for the guilt. Only You can bring healing. Only You can transform an agent of wrong into a warrior for justice and mercy.

Father, thank You for Your Choice Resource Center, for every staff member, for every volunteer, and for Your provision through the sacrificial giving of Your people.

Father, we don’t just long for the day of no more abortions, we also long for the day of no more miscarriages. Sin and death have violated every domain of shalom, including the realm of birthing. Our hearts break for those families who would love a child to Your glory but must endure the pain of giving up their children before birth. Show us how to love and serve them well.

How long, Father God, before the last abortion and the last miscarriage? How long, O Lord? Until that day, we also ask for courage and compassion to adopt the millions of orphaned children who have safely made it into this world. May our zeal against abortion be matched by a zeal for walking with women in crisis pregnancies and zeal for adopting the millions of orphans in the world. Surely there is room in our hearts and homes for these precious image bearers of Yours.

All for the glory of Your name, Lord Jesus, Amen.

Then some children were brought to Him so that He might lay His hands on them and pray; and the disciples rebuked them. But Jesus said, “Let the children alone, and do not hinder them from coming to Me; for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these. Matthew 19:13-14
Prayer for Today: Father in Heaven, I praise You for Your love that never ceases. You are the only perfect Father, and You are. You have allowed us at Englewood to be stewards of hundreds of children and their families and many who only participate are not yet following You. I know that Your ultimate purpose in every ministry and every event is to reach every young precious soul to be a growing, reproducing disciple of Yours. Father, I pray for every volunteer that works with children and preschoolers. I pray for Your grace and favor on every member who serves these little children in Connect Groups, Awana, Van ministry, After School tutoring, Upward basketball, and VBS. Father, I pray every child will be saved. I pray every parent will be saved. Give every teacher and every leader among children a boldness to share the Gospel with every child and parent. I pray that You give grace and courage to every parent who follows You to lead their children to follow You. I pray that many children and parents will be saved and baptized this year. For the glory of Your name and the advance of Your kingdom. Amen.

Whenever you pray, you must not be like the hypocrites, because they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by people. I assure you: They’ve got their reward! But when you pray, go into your private room, shut your door, and pray to your Father who is in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you. When you pray, don’t babble like the idolaters, since they imagine they’ll be heard for their many words. Don’t be like them, because your Father knows the things you need before you ask Him. Therefore, you should pray like this: Our Father in heaven, Your name be honored as holy. Your kingdom come. Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. And do not bring us into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one. For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen. Matthew 6:5-13
Prayer for Today: Holy Father in Heaven, thank You for allowing me the awesome privilege of coming to Your throne and speaking directly with You. I confess that I am unworthy and undeserving of this precious opportunity, but I come by the blood and in the name of Jesus, my Lord and Savior. Father, forgive me for my short-sighted and self-centered prayers. Thank You for allowing me to ask for personal needs. However, I do not want my time with You to be centered on me but on You – not on my world but on Your kingdom, not on the temporal issues but on eternal matters.  Precious Father, I want to mature in my conversations with You. This privilege is so precious since it was attained by the blood of Your Son. Father, I don’t want to waste words or time on mundane matters. So Lord, I’m asking You to grow me in praying. Take me to a deeper level of intimacy with You so that I use our intentional time together to advance Your kingdom and accomplish Your will. Because Yours is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever, Amen.

Consider it all joy, my brethren, when you encounter various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces endurance. And let endurance have its perfect result, so that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing. But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all generously and without reproach, and it will be given to him. But he must ask in faith without any doubting, for the one who doubts is like the surf of the sea, driven and tossed by the wind. For that man ought not to expect that he will receive anything from the Lord, being a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways. James 1:2-8
Prayer for Today: Heavenly Father, I praise You because You alone are all-knowing. You have searched me, Lord, and You know me. You know when I sit and when I rise; You know everything I think. You discern my going out and my lying down; You are familiar with all my ways. Before a word is on my tongue Lord, You know it completely. You are the only wise God, full of wisdom. How many are Your works, Lord! In wisdom You made them all; the earth is full of Your creatures. Precious Lord, like Solomon, I desperately need Your wisdom. Teach me to number my days, that I may gain a heart of wisdom. I want to have the fear of the Lord which is the beginning of wisdom. Father, cause me to be continually mindful that every thought, every word, every motive, and every deed is under Your constant surveillance, and that one day, I will give an account to You for each one. Father, I pray that every deacon will be filled with wisdom. Place on each man’s heart the members of Englewood that You want to serve as our Transition Team. Then Lord, give me and my brothers and sisters at Englewood the wisdom to discern Your will. Father, fill us with the knowledge of Your will through all the wisdom and understanding that the Spirit gives. And Father, You get all the glory now and forever. Amen.

Then the disciples approached Jesus privately and said, “Why couldn’t we drive it out?” “Because of your little faith,” He told them. “For I assure you: If you have faith the size of a mustard seed, you will tell this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you. However, this kind does not come out except by prayer and fasting.” Matthew 17:19-21
Prayer for Today: Father God, You are always faithful. You are the truth. You are never changing, never failing, and You always do what You promise. Faithful, You are faithful, even when I am not. Thank You for intentionally putting me in situations that encourage me to simply trust You. You are the all wise God. Lord, I want my faith to be pleasing to You. I want to grow in faith. I pray that You would use my faithfulness as a testimony of Your faithfulness and that would give You great glory. Today, Father, I want to take a deliberate step of faith, so I am sensitive to Your Spirit’s leading me as to what You want me to do. For Your glory, Amen.

Deacons, likewise, should be worthy of respect, not hypocritical,…holding the mystery of the faith with a clear conscience. And they must also be tested first; if they prove blameless, then they can serve as deacons. Wives, too, must be worthy of respect, not slanderers, self-controlled, faithful in everything…. For those who have served well as deacons acquire a good standing for themselves, and great boldness in the faith that is in Christ Jesus. 1 Timothy 3:8-13
Prayer for Today: Precious Father, You alone are worthy of all honor and praise. You are always dependable. You are faithful and true. Thank You for being my example in all things. You did not come to be served, but You came to serve. You are the only Sovereign who is also a servant. What a God You are! Father, thank You for all the men who faithfully serve You and Your church. I pray specifically that every deacon and his wife will have a marriage that is rich, full, and glorifies You. I pray that every child of a deacon will see a worthy example in their mom and dad. I pray every child of a deacon will be a growing, reproducing disciple of Yours. Father God, would You bring the fresh wind and fresh fire of revival in the heart of every deacon and his wife. Would You give them wisdom in every decision they make. I pray that You would grant strength, rest, and power to each of them. For the sake of Your name, Amen.

“And now, Lord, take note of their threats, and grant that Your bond-servants may speak Your word with all confidence, while You extend Your hand to heal, and signs and wonders take place through the name of Your holy servant Jesus.” And when they had prayed, the place where they had gathered together was shaken, and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak the word of God with boldness. Acts 4:29-31
Prayer for Today: Heavenly Father, Your steadfast love never ceases. Your mercies are fresh every morning. Great is Your faithfulness. Father God, I confess that there have been many times I have not taken the initiative to start a Gospel conversation even when your Spirit prompted me. Forgive me for allowing my selfishness, my fear, my pride, or my rebellion to keep me from sharing when I should have. Lord, thank you for allowing Englewood to offer ministries like Upward and Awana to attract so many children and families that do not know You. Thank You for every coach, every referee, and every volunteer that have worked every weekend so far this winter. Encourage their hearts and bless them with abundant joy. But oh Father, I pray for those 50 families here tonight and tomorrow who are not connected to You or to any church. Open their darkened eyes, convict their souls, and give them a hunger and thirst for their need of You. Then Lord of the Harvest, use me and other members of Englewood to go to the practices and games, give us boldness to take the initiative and share the Good News to every one of them. Fill me with Your Holy Spirit so I will speak the Word of God with boldness. To the glory of Your name, Amen.

Therefore, you should pray like this: Our Father in heaven, Your name be honored as holy. Your kingdom come. Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Matthew 6:9-10
Going a little farther, He fell face down and prayed, “My Father! If it is possible, let this cup pass from Me. Yet not as I will, but as You will.” Again, a second time, He went away and prayed, “My Father, if this cannot pass unless I drink it, Your will be done.” Matthew 26:39,42
Prayer for Today: Father in Heaven, how I respect and honor You. You alone are worthy of my adoration and worship. You are the One who gave me life; You gave me this life on earth. You have given me abundant, overflowing life, and You gave me eternal, everlasting life. Thank You, O Father. I know You have a plan for everything You created, and I am so grateful to You for having a will for my life. Thank You Father. I pray that Your will be done in my life, Your will be done in my family, and that Your will be done in Englewood Baptist Church. Your will is always acceptable to You because it is good and perfect. I pray that every decision I make be exactly according to Your will. I pray that brothers and sisters at Englewood will live their lives according to Your will. I pray that our pastors and leaders at Englewood would be led by You so that every decision and every direction would be according to Your will, not according to what we may want but what You want, O Lord. For Yours is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever. Amen.

In that day you will not question Me about anything. Truly, truly, I say to you, if you ask the Father for anything in My name, He will give it to you. Until now you have asked for nothing in My name; ask and you will receive, so that your joy may be made full. John 16:23-24
And He saw that there was no one, and wondered that there was no intercessor. Isaiah 59:16
Prayer for Today: Heavenly Father, I am still overwhelmed that I have the privilege through the name and by the blood of Jesus Christ to speak directly to You. To You, the Almighty God, the Creator. You, the I Am, the one true God! What a privilege You have given me by Your grace. Thank you Father! Thank You for this gift of prayer.
I’m convicted by the times I could have talked with You but I chose not to. Please forgive me. I’m convicted by those times I talked to You but didn’t talk with You. Forgive my selfishness. Precious Father, I pray for all the Christ followers in my Englewood family to become burdened to pray more, more intently, more intentionally, more continually, and more boldly. Father, starting with me, place in our hearts a deep burning desire for communing with You. Father, raise up hundreds of intercessors at Englewood Baptist Church. Place a desire to be involved in all the prayer opportunities that You have given us at Englewood. Father God, starting in me, change the culture at Englewood to be one that prayer is essential to all we are and do. Do this Father so that You can be glorified in us. In Jesus’ name, Amen

So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand. Isaiah 41:10
Prayer for Today: Father God, You are the only constant in all the galaxies. You do not walk around wringing Your hands. You sit on Your throne. You are the Sovereign. You are my King, and You are my Father. With so many uncertainties in life, I confess my tendency to become anxious, even becoming sinful by worrying. Please forgive me for not resting in You. I pray for cleansing from being dismayed at all that’s happening around me instead of finding my satisfaction only in You. Father, I pray for all those in Englewood who are struggling with discouragement and doubt. I pray they will find their strength in You. Help them Father. I pray today, as brothers and sisters pray and seek You, that You would speak encouragement and hope into them through Your Word. Be glorified in their recovery from their dismay. In Jesus’ Name, Amen

For You are my hope; O Lord God, You are my confidence from my youth….O God, You have taught me from my youth, And I still declare Your wondrous deeds. Psalm 71:5, 17
Prayer for Today: Father God, today, I pray specifically for the thousands of college aged students and youth around me. Most of them are lost, with no passion for You or Your Word. Yet, I know You love each and every one of them. Lord, I pray You would grant boldness to the followers of Christ who are teachers, professors, administrators, and students among them. Place on Your followers a compassion and a desire to see them saved. Lord, I pray for the hundreds of students from around the world who are here in our own area. Father, use me and use other Christ-followers in our area to reach out in love and share the Good News of hope while they are here. I pray that I would regard each and every one of the students as You regard them, speaking and sharing Your life with them. For Jesus’ sake, Amen

Therefore everyone who hears these words of Mine and acts on them, may be compared to a wise man who built his house on the rock. And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and slammed against that house; and yet it did not fall, for it had been founded on the rock. Everyone who hears these words of Mine and does not act on them, will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand. The rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and slammed against that house; and it fell – and great was its fall. Matthew 7:24-27
Prayer for Today: Heavenly Father, thank You for the opportunity to hear the faithful preaching of the gospel today. I pray that You would empower Pastor Chris to clearly and boldly proclaim the message of the cross. Lord, I pray that hundreds of us at Englewood today would hear Your Word, and then, immediately, act upon what You said. I pray that marriages and families would stand against the storms of life because they acted upon what You said today and tonight. I pray You would be so blessed as You see how we love Your Word, Your people, and how we take Your Word seriously and today, respond to it. Amen

Jesus went through all the towns and villages, teaching in their synagogues, proclaiming the good news of the kingdom and healing every disease and sickness. When he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.”  Matthew 9:35-38
Prayer for Today: Lord of the Harvest, I cry out to You for the billions who are lost and have never had someone tell them the Gospel of Jesus. Father, they are helpless, hopeless, and harassed by the evil one. You know each precious soul. You love each one. Lord, I pray you would use me and other Christ-followers at Englewood to boldly and broadly share Gospel conversations with our neighbors, our family, and those we come across in life. Lord, give me Your eyes for the crowds so I can see precious souls that You died for, those who are going to perish forever unless they receive and follow You. Lord of the Harvest, use me in the harvest in this area. I ask that You take those of us who have Your compassion for our lost neighbors and send us and other laborers to the 3,100 unengaged, unreached people groups in other nations. Lord, You sent me, now use me. For the glory of Your name, Amen.

Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God; and everyone who loves is born of God and knows God. The one who does not love does not know God, for God is love. By this the love of God was manifested in us, that God has sent His only begotten Son into the world so that we might live through Him. In this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins. Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. No one has seen God at any time; if we love one another, God abides in us, and His love is perfected in us. 1 John 4:7-12
Prayer for Today: Loving heavenly Father, thank You for Your never-failing, never-ending, unconditional love for me. Thank You, Lord Jesus, for loving me so much You gave Your life on my behalf, in my place, dying for my sins. Today, I want to show Your great love to all people. Forgive me for not loving all people like You want me to. Forgive me for not loving unconditionally, at all times like I should, like You do to me. I ask You to love people through me, all people, especially those who are so different from me. I pray that my love will be evident in my compassion, my forgiveness, my forbearance, and my actions towards all people. For Your name’s sake, Amen.

Therefore, since we have so great a cloud of witnesses surrounding us, let us also lay aside every encumbrance and the sin which so easily entangles us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. For consider Him who has endured such hostility by sinners against Himself, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart. Hebrews 12:1-3
Prayer for Today: Oh Father in Heaven, You are from everlasting to everlasting. You are eternal, immortal, invisible, and I worship You. I thank you that I am not alone, that all around me are the heroes of the faith cheering for me to press on, in You. Thank You for calling me to run the race. Thank You for giving me my own unique lane of life to live and run. You made me different than anyone else. You O Lord, have a plan and a purpose for my life. Thank You Savior! Show me what is in my life that slows me down, that is not beneficial to winning the race. I realize it may not be evil, but it encumbers me, it entangles me. Precious Lord, I willingly let it go for You. I don’t want to give up, or quit, or lose heart and be depressed. Lord Jesus, thank You for bearing shame and disgrace for me. Thank You for suffering in my place, for my sin. Today, I firmly set my focus on You, not on me and my issues, but on You. I look full in Your wonderful face, and the things of earth grow dim in the light of Your glory and grace. Thank you, Jesus! Amen.

Come now, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go to such and such a city, and spend a year there and engage in business and make a profit.” Yet you do not know what your life will be like tomorrow. You are just a vapor that appears for a little while and then vanishes away. Instead, you ought to say, “If the Lord wills, we will live and also do this or that. But as it is, you boast in your arrogance; all such boasting is evil. Therefore, to one who knows the right thing to do and does not do it, to him it is sin.” James 4:13-17

Teach us to number our days carefully so that we may develop wisdom in our hearts. Psalms 90:12

Prayer for Today: Precious Father, thank You for giving me life, today. I realize I will only have this Wednesday, today. It is continually passing away and will never be repeated. Father, I confess I have wasted some of the time You have given me. Forgive my poor stewardship of this precious commodity of time. Forgive me of the sin of procrastination. Forgive me for making plans as if I will always be able to do what I want, without regard to Your will. You are the only Sovereign. You said all such boasting is evil, and I confess it as evil. Father in Heaven, today, I want to be so sensitive to Your Spirit that You only have to whisper, and I will obey. I want to be so mindful of my mortality that I use every moment exactly according to Your will. I pray that today, every thing that I already know I need to do, I will do. Today, as I am careful on how I use every moment, I want You to develop my heart to see life from Your perspective. Give me that wisdom. For the sake of Your glory, Amen.

I am the true vine, and My Father is the vinedresser. Every branch in Me that does not bear fruit, He takes away; and every branch that bears fruit, He prunes it so that it may bear more fruit. You are already clean because of the word which I have spoken to you. Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself unless it abides in the vine, so neither can you unless you abide in Me. I am the vine, you are the branches; he who abides in Me and I in him, he bears much fruit, for apart from Me you can do nothing. If anyone does not abide in Me, he is thrown away as a branch and dries up; and they gather them, and cast them into the fire and they are burned. If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you. John 15:1-7
Prayer for Today: Father in Heaven, thank You that YOU are my heavenly Vinedresser and that You tend my life with such care and concern. Father God, I desire to bear much fruit for Your glory. Cleanse me and prune me. Take away anything You discover in me that does not glorify Your holy name. Thank you for pruning my life of things that are not eternally profitable. Yes Lord, I am willing to let go of them. Yes, I let them go. Thank You Father that I am connected to You, my heavenly Vine, the lovely Lord Jesus Christ. May Your life flow through mine as sap flows through the branch that is engrafted into its parent stem. Fill me with and inflow Your fullness so that I may live, move, grow, and bear fruit as I abide more and more in You. I confess that without You, I am nothing, and without You, I can accomplish nothing eternal. Father, teach me how to abide in Christ and He in me. Teach me to live my life as You would have me to live in total dependence upon You, which is the life of Christ being lived through me, so that I may produce the good fruit in my life that is honoring to You. In these days, I desire to begin asking big things from You that only You can answer. As You answer these prayers, You will be the only One who gets the glory. This I ask, in Jesus’ name and for Your sake, AMEN.

Answer me when I call, God, who vindicates me. You freed me from affliction; be gracious to me and hear my prayer. How long, exalted men, will my honor be insulted? How long will you love what is worthless and pursue a lie? Selah Know that the Lord has set apart the faithful for Himself; the Lord will hear when I call to Him. Be angry and do not sin; on your bed, reflect in your heart and be still. Selah Offer sacrifices in righteousness and trust in the Lord. Many are saying, “Who can show us anything good?” Look on us with favor, Lord. You have put more joy in my heart than they have when their grain and new wine abound. I will both lie down and sleep in peace, for You alone, Lord, make me live in safety. Psalm 4
Prayer for Today: Father God, thank you for allowing me to live this Monday. I praise You that you heard my prayer when I called. I praise You that You are righteous and make me righteous, even though I don’t feel or always act righteous. I praise You that You provide relief in my distress when I face giants in my life. Father, when the enemy seeks to overtake me, set my heart apart for You alone. When I struggle with anger over a situation, let me trust You in a spirit of quiet surrender. Lord, I give myself to You and trust You today for the promises I have in You, my “Canaan land.” Even though the world doubts Your goodness, let me seek and seek Your face, when I’m surrounded by darkness. I trust You for Your surpassing joy today, regardless of what happens around me. And heavenly Father, even though I continue to encounter spiritual battles, give me Your peace that provides surpassing rest and safety. I’m resting in Jesus. Amen

When anyone hears the word of the kingdom and does not understand it, the evil one comes and snatches away what has been sown in his heart. This is the one on whom seed was sown beside the road. The one on whom seed was sown on the rocky places, this is the man who hears the word and immediately receives it with joy; yet he has no firm root in himself, but is only temporary, and when affliction or persecution arises because of the word, immediately he falls away. And the one on whom seed was sown among the thorns, this is the man who hears the word, and the worry of the world and the deceitfulness of wealth choke the word, and it becomes unfruitful. And the one on whom seed was sown on the good soil, this is the man who hears the word and understands it; who indeed bears fruit and brings forth, some a hundredfold, some sixty, and some thirty. Matthew 13:19-23
Today, God’s Word will be taught in over 70 Connect Groups and preached in 3 Worship Celebrations at Englewood Baptist Church. Pray that every time the Word of God is taught and preached in our church, God would protect the truth from being snatched away by the evil one.
Prayer for Today: Father God, thank You for Your Word. Your Word is truth. Thank you for all those in Englewood and all the churches who faithfully teach and preach Your Word. I pray that today, they would deliver what they have received from You this week. Father, I ask that You give me and all our church family a hunger and thirst for Your Word. I pray that You would cause our hearts to be good soil for Your incorruptible seed so that we would apply Your Word, obey Your Word, and share Your Word with others. Father God, I am asking that Your Word sown today would bring forth much lasting fruit. For the sake of Your glory. Amen

I now rejoice, not that you were made sorrowful, but that you were made sorrowful to the point of repentance; for you were made sorrowful according to the will of God, so that you might not suffer loss in anything through us. For the sorrow that is according to the will of God produces a repentance without regret, leading to salvation, but the sorrow of the world produces death. For behold what earnestness this very thing, this godly sorrow, has produced in you: what vindication of yourselves, what indignation, what fear, what longing, what zeal, what avenging of wrong! In everything you demonstrated yourselves to be innocent in the matter. 2 Cor. 7:9-11
How often should a person repent?
(1) Once, at conversion.
(2) Daily, to keep a clean heart before holy God.
(3) During special services such as “Revival Services.”
(4) At salvation and anytime thereafter that God convicts the person of sin.
Every child of God who is seeking after Him with a whole heart must realize that repentance is not an option but a requirement. God says, “Return to Me, and I will return to you” (Malachi 3:7 NASB). The act of returning to the Lord—forsaking known sin and obeying what He says—is repentance. This is a crucial step for all who are seeking God for revival. From the point of regeneration until the day we are finally free from the presence of sin, our heart attitude must always be: “Lord, I am willing to forsake any sin that You show me, in order to have a pure heart and glorify You.” In other words, once a repenter, always a repenter.
Prayer for Today: Holy, Holy, Holy is the Lord of hosts. You are gracious and compassionate, yet I often find my heart wandering from You. Please, don’t allow me to continue in sin. Confront me quickly through Your Holy Spirit and Your Word. Soften my heart that I may repent and return to You with everything I am. Let me know the joy of walking closely with You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

The grass withers, the flower fades, but the word of our God stands forever. Isaiah 40:8
At Englewood, we have a privilege that most of the world does not have: we can meet together in small groups of people our age and study God’s word together, pray together, and fellowship in safety and freedom. Yet, many followers of Christ do not take advantage of this opportunity. Pray that every Christ follower at Englewood would make the Word of God a daily priority in personal study and a weekly priority in Connect Groups.
Prayer for Today: God, we thank You that the precepts, teachings, and truths found in Your Word do not change but last forever. Father, please use the truth in Your Word to equip us for every good work. Even as the psalmist treasured God’s Word in his heart so that he would not sin against God, we pray that we too will desire this treasure that helps us walk in spiritual victory over sin. Your Word is a lamp to our feet and a light to our path. In the growing darkness of our culture, we pray that Christians will regularly fill their hearts and minds with the Word of God in order to walk in the light with Jesus. Father, please help Your children be diligent to memorize Scripture. Bring Your Word to mind so we also can resist temptations. Father, please give my Christian brothers and sisters a life-altering, life-giving encounter with You every time they read the Bible. For Your glory. Amen

Older women likewise are to be reverent in their behavior, not malicious gossips nor enslaved to much wine, teaching what is good, so that they may encourage the young women to love their husbands, to love their children, to be sensible, pure, workers at home, kind, being subject to their own husbands, so that the word of God will not be dishonored. Titus 2:3-5
Tonight and tomorrow will both be unique opportunities for women at Englewood, beginning with “An Evening to Exhale” tonight, and a workshop and luncheon tomorrow, with Mrs. Donna Gaines. Join me in praying specifically for God to use these events in a powerful way in the lives of hundreds of women.
Prayer For Today: Father, we pray together for our women’s leaders and table hosts. Give them humble hearts and opportunities to serve. We pray for Your words to flow through them as they welcome and serve. We pray that You would use Donna Gaines tonight and tomorrow as Your messenger. Give all the leaders the courage to step outside of their plans and programs if You have another path for them to take, as well as the discipline to stay on course amidst distraction and interruption. We pray that the table hosts will treat everyone as You would, with love and warmth equally. Father, we pray for any women who are newcomers at our church. We pray that You would draw them into conversation easily and that they would feel comfortable and welcome. Whatever place they’re at in life, we pray that the messages, Scriptures, and activities during tonight’s event would speak personally to their circumstances. Father, we pray for women who may be secretly hurting at Englewood. You know their hearts, and every minute detail of what they’re going through. Though they may not share openly about their struggles, You will meet them right where they’re at. We pray for opportunities for them to let down their guard, share their story, and receive prayer. Father, we ask for Your divine presence before, during, and after our time together these two days. Please prepare our hearts and the hearts of our guests for Your ministry. We ask for healing, worship, and salvation. Supernaturally remove obstacles and distractions that may prevent women from receiving from You. Open up our thoughts to the life-changing truths of Your Word, and give us a new understanding of Your character and Your love for us. Touch each woman profoundly so that their lives are forever changed by your touch. Thank you for loving us and for reaching out to us. We worship you. Amen.

“For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and shall be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh. This mystery is great; but I am speaking with reference to Christ and the church. Nevertheless, each individual among you also is to love his own wife even as himself, and the wife must see to it that she respects her husband.” Ephesians 5:31-33
The enemy has mounted a direct attack on marriage. He knows that if he can divide marriages, he can take the broken pieces – the children. Today, we need to pray for marriages in our church and in this nation.
Prayer for Today: Father God in Heaven, You created the institution of marriage. You desire that our marriage be a reflection of Your relationship with us – steadfast, vibrant, joyous, and faithful. I pray Your protection over the marriages in our church family and throughout our area. I pray that husbands would love their wives as You love Your Bride. I pray that wives would respect their husbands as we honor You. I pray that couples would pray together, worship together, grow together, and study Your Word together. Would You bring a fresh breath of revival among all marriages in Englewood? For Jesus’ sake, amen.

“Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened. Or what man is there among you who, when his son asks for a loaf, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, he will not give him a snake, will he? If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give what is good to those who ask Him!” ‭‭Matthew‬ ‭7:7-11‬
The most powerful possession of a Christ follower is prayer. Prayer can do anything that God can do, and He can do anything. Jesus wants to hear from you! He already knows what you need, but He wants you to ask Him in faith and trust!
Prayer is not so much about getting what you need as much as it is developing your relationship with God. The more you desire Him, the more you talk to Him, and the more you trust Him. It is not to try to get Him to change His mind, but rather, to change your mind to be like His!
So how do you pray? Continually, confidently, and consistently! You ask, seek, and knock! In the original language, those words are constant action. In other words, you ask and keep on asking, you seek and keep on seeking, and you knock and keep on knocking!
Constant prayer is not an annoyance to God, it is an aroma to Him! God loves you and wants to provide your needs and sometimes your wants! (Psalm 37:4) So pray, then pray some more! Then pray again! He will never tire of hearing you call on His name!
Prayer for Today: Father, as a child wants to spend time with his daddy, I want to spend time with you. Forgive me for those times when I could have talked to You, but I ignored You. Today, I want to talk with You, not just talking to You, but with You until I go to sleep tonight. Then, if I am alive tomorrow, I want to live that day in continual communication with You.

“Search me, O God, and know my heart; Try me and know my anxious thoughts; And see if there be any hurtful way in me, And lead me in the everlasting way.” Psalm 139:23-24
God’s character is revealed in Psalm 139. He is all present, all powerful, and all knowing. The first six verses tell us God already knows everything about us – where we go, what we do, and even what we think. This prayer is what I would say to a doctor who has done blood work, an MRI, and an X-Ray on me if I wanted to be whole. “You know exactly what’s going on inside me. Tell me what you already know about me, and I will make whatever adjustments or changes I need to make in order to be well again.”
Prayer for Today: Father God, You know everything there is to know about me. Now, tell me, reveal to me exactly what You see in me. What changes do I need to make? What do I need to do that I haven’t been doing? What do I need to stop that is not good for me? Father, lead me in the way an everlasting person lives. I want to be all You want me to be.

“How can a young man keep his way pure? By keeping it according to Your word. With all my heart I have sought You; do not let me wander from Your commandments. Your word I have treasured in my heart, that I may not sin against You.” Psalm 119:9-11
Prayer for Today: Father, put a desire in the hearts of every Christ follower in the Englewood Baptist Church family to make a fresh commitment to immerse themselves in Your Word this year, seeking Your face daily with their whole heart. Make the heart of Your people more hungry for the Word of God than for bread. Amen.

“We always thank God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, when we pray for you, since we heard of your faith in Christ Jesus and of the love that you have for all the saints, because of the hope laid up for you in heaven. Of this you have heard before in the word of the truth, the gospel, which has come to you, as indeed in the whole world it is bearing fruit and growing—as it also does among you, since the day you heard it and understood the grace of God in truth.” Col. 1:3-6
Dear heavenly Father, we bring our church families before You today, with all their brokenness, messes, issues, and needs. It’s not only a privilege but also a calling to pray for Your Bride.
For until the Day Jesus returns, the church is Your chosen means for revealing Your glory, extending Your grace, and advancing Your kingdom. No wonder she is constantly being assailed by the world, assaulted by darkness, and attacked from within.
In keeping with Paul’s prayer for the churches in Colossae, we ask You to inundate, saturate, and liberate churches in our area by the gospel of Your grace. The gospel must be central to everything.
By the riches of the gospel, bear great fruit in our midst, Father. Deepen and strengthen our faith in Jesus. May His beauty capture our hearts; and His name be the most heard, loved, and trusted name in our churches.
By the power of the gospel, make us great lovers, Father. By Your mercy and grace, give us love for all the saints. May Your welcoming heart and transforming love permeate our churches. Teach us how to connect redemptively. Don’t let us ever get used to loving poorly.
By the hope-filled gospel, liberate our hands, hearts, and resources, for the work of Your kingdom, in our cities and among the nations. With us or without us, the gospel will continue to bear fruit and grow throughout the world. We want it to do so with us, Father.
Prayer for Today: Father, by Your grace and for Your glory, revive us, transform us, and free us for Your sovereign and saving purposes.

“Will You not revive us again that Your people may rejoice in You.” Psalm 85:6
No doubt it grieves your soul to see the godlessness that pervades our society. Yet God is stirring His people to pray. And when God’s people unite in prayer, it’s not long until God does something amazing! That’s the purpose of these 40 Days of Prayer and Fasting-to prepare the people of God for the work of God.
Prayer for Today: O LORD, our Lord, we need You now as much as ever in our lives. We are desperate for You to make Yourself known among Your people. Do a fresh work within my heart to cause newness of life within me. I want to be content with You, satisfied with only You, and find my greatest joy in fellowship with You. For Jesus’ sake. Amen

And Jesus said to them, “The attendants of the bridegroom cannot mourn as long as the bridegroom is with them, can they? But the days will come when the bridegroom is taken away from them, and then they will fast.” Matthew 9:15
To fast means to do without food in order to seek God with intensified Bible reading and prayer. The Bible encourages all believers in Jesus to fast. Jesus fasted, Paul fasted, and so did most all the great leaders in the Bible. Somehow, fasting adds power to our prayers. If you have never fasted, maybe you start by missing one meal and use that time in prayer and scripture. Maybe God leads you fast during the daylight hours, for 24 hours, or a certain day of the week. Ask Him, and make sure you use that time seeking Him.
Prayer for Today: Father God, I know that neither my praying or my fasting can force You to do anything. But I do want You to use it in my life to change me. Would You impress upon my heart when You want me to fast? Lord, as Your Bride, I will obey.

“If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” 1 John 1:9
Did you know that a person can be clean on the outside, but filthy on the inside? Jesus told the Pharisees, “You are like white washed tombs; you appear clean on the outside but within you are full of deadness.” God wants to not only forgive us of our sins on the outside; He wants to cleanse our inward crookedness (iniquity).
Prayer for Today: Father, I want You to go beneath the surface in my life. Plow deep to reveal any of my motives, my attitudes, my thoughts, my plans, my ideas, and my desires that are not from You. I won’t stop praying today until I can say “there is no unconfessed sin in my life.”

“Who may ascend into the hill of the LORD? Or who may stand in His holy place? He who has clean hands and a pure heart, who has not lifted up his soul to an idol, nor sworn deceitfully. He shall receive blessings from the LORD, and righteousness from the God of his salvation.” Psalms 24:3-5
The sweet little girls were playing house outside and making mud pies for supper when dad drives up. One of them jumps to her feet and runs toward him yelling” Daddy!” He loves her unconditionally but seeing what is about to happen to his clean suit he says with a smile, “I love you and I’m going to give you a big hug, right after you go wash your hands.” Our Father loves us and is ready to shower us with His blessings – if we are clean.
Prayer for Today: Father God, I want to be clean inside and out. Today, I want to spend time listening to You tell me what thoughts, what actions, and what words I need cleansing. When You tell me, I will confess and repent. Clean me, O LORD.

“Jesus and His earliest followers prayed like it was important. We pray like it is inconvenient or inconsequential. Prayer was their priority. It is our postscript. We plan more than we pray. They prayed more than they planned. We gather to minister to one another. They gathered to minister to the Lord in prayer and fasting. Our focus is earthly, horizontal. Theirs was heavenly, vertical. They were wise enough to “pray the price.” From the book, Pray Like It Matters by Dr. Steve Gaines
Prayer for Today: Father God, give to me and to my family at Englewood a burning passion to pray more than I pray. I desire to grow up to a more mature level of communicating with you. Today, I seek Your heart.
