The When, Where, and Why of Baptism

Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.”
Matthew 28:19

Why should I Be Baptized?

  1. Why should I be baptized?
You should be baptized for at least three reasons.  First, to follow the example set by Jesus. (Mark 1:9)  Second, Jesus Christ commanded it.  (Matthew 28:19-20)  Third, it demonstrates you really are a believer. (Acts 18:8)
  2. What is the meaning of baptism?
It illustrated Christ’s death, burial and resurrection.  (1 Corinthians 15:3-4 and Romans 6:4)  It illustrates my new life as a Christian. (2 Corinthians 5:17)
  3. Why be baptized by immersion?
Jesus was baptized that way. (Matthew 3:16)  Every baptism in the Scriptures was by immersion. (Acts 8:38-39)  The word baptized means to immerse in water.  Finally, baptism is a symbol of the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ.  Baptism by immersion best symbolizes what Jesus has done for us.
  4. Who should be baptized and when should I be baptized?
Every person who has believed in Christ should be baptized. (Acts 8:13)  You should be baptized as soon as you believe in Jesus Christ as your Savior.  (Acts 2:41)

Who Will Baptize Me?

  1. Who will baptize me?
You will be scheduled to be baptized by one of the pastors on our staff.  If you have a particular pastor you wish to baptize you, you may contact that pastor directly to ask when they will be baptizing next OR you may speak with Julie Green who is the administrative assistant who schedules baptism.
  2. Can someone other than a pastor baptize me?
Absolutely.  Many people have asked their Bible Fellowship teachers, friends, fathers, or grandfathers to baptize them.  You must let the church office know in advance who you would like to baptize you so that the pastor who is responsible for baptizing that week can speak with that man.
  3. Are there any exceptions?
If you have a pastor in your life from another church who can be present that evening to baptize you, you can contact the pastor who is baptizing that week to arrange for him to speak with the visiting pastor.
  4. How will I know which pastor is scheduled from Englewood?
Our Pastors rotate about every five weeks.  Call Julie to find out which one of our Pastor’s will be baptizing.
